Fashion-able: 2013 Designer Collaborations

Here on the fourth floor we’re not letting articles like this deter us. Why? Because we love designer collaborations (see our 2012 instalment here). Big companies teaming up with high fashion brands so that us plebeians can actually buy them? How kind. Here are some designer collabos we’re looking forward to.

River Island x Rihanna
Ahh Princess Riri, we’ll always love you even though you’re back together with Cbreezy. You’re a beautiful, smart (we like to still believe) and confident woman with killer style, which is why we’re super pumped to see what you’ve come up with for your River Island collaboration. Even this sneak peek has got us willing to eat the extra £10.00 shipping fee. Now if we could just pay extra for that accent…

Oliver Peoples x Maison Kitsuné
Super cool brands Oliver Peoples and Maison Kitsuné have teamed up to bring us a beautiful collection of sunnies you’ll hopefully see us wearing this summer. The retro model Tokyo has a unisex frame and the option to add coloured lenses. The Paris model is more feminine and available in black and a tortoiseshell-honey colour called 8108 (below).

We’ll have one Paris in 8108 please.

Banana Republic x Milly
Hitting shelves in May 2013, this Hamptons-inpsired collab is the first for Milly designer Michelle Smith, but we hope not the last. The 46-piece women’s collection ranges from apparel jewelry and totes in summery colours like coral and lime, to 16 pieces for men including printed shorts and knit button-downs. Now if only we had a place in the Hamptons to wear this collab, we’d be all set.

We can feel the summer breeze from this Banana Republic x Milly collection.

Alber Elbaz x Lancôme
We.love.makeup. Especially when it’s Lancôme teaming up with the ever-charming Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. No details yet except a très adorable video that has been released. The limited edition collection is set to launch Saturday, June 15.

Prabal Gurung x Target
Having dressed the likes of First Lady Michelle Obama and The Duchess of Cambridge, Prabal Gurung has been taking the fashion world by storm since the launch of his line in 2009. The collaboration between Gurung and Target is a smart one, especially on the heels of the failed Nordstrom x Target collection. The collection hit stores earlier this week and almost sold out within a day (just our luck), so if you want to get your fashion hungry fingers on this collab, we suggest checking out eBay or pleading with your American friends to let you ship something from Target.com to their house.

Once Target comes to Canada, you can count on us being first in line for whatever amazing collaboration is coming up next.

Fashion-able: Spring beauty collections we can’t wait for

Being the beauty junkies that we are, it’s rare that a new nail polish or lip shade escapes a morning debrief on the fourth floor. Since Wiarton Willie just predicted an early spring, we’re looking forward to electric neons, over-the-top lashes, modern cat eyes, a golden glow, statement lips, power brows, metallic accents and these looks and collections:

Rosy Glow

We’re loving the look of pretty feminine cheeks seen on the runways at Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs – rosy cheeks that were just the right mix of flirty and flushed. A piece from Bobbi Brown’s Rose Gold collection, particularly a beautiful shimmer brick compact in Rose Gold or Wild Rose ($49), is the perfect addition to our spring makeup bag to achieve this look.

A pretty and delicate look for Spring from Bobbi Brown.

Garden Pastels

We don’t know if Lancôme and Dior are conspiring to host the ultimate garden party this year, but add us to the guest list. Dior’s Spring 2012 collection is inspired by a rose garden planted and lovingly cultivated by Mr. Dior himself. We’re swooning over the limited edition Dior Garden Clutch ($75) and new eyeshadow palettes with soft greens, delicate violets and subtle pinks.

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Dior is always appropriate. Hint, hint!

Similarly, Lancôme invites us to a Roseraie des Delices this spring – a rose garden of delights. We’ll wait to see who is bold enough to rock the new Color Fever Gloss in Green Petal ($31). We bet we’ll spot it on a few fashionable pairs of lips at World MasterCard Fashion Week Toronto.

Pistachio? Mint-chip green? Either way, this pale green is lovely for spring.

Coloured Liner

If a minty-green pout is a little too much, we like some bold colour around the eyes. Estée Lauder’s 2012 collection, with the Kajal Eye Crayon in Dramatic Teal ($23), presents a strong colourful look for spring. It’s especially pretty when it’s drawn all the way into the inner corners of the eyes – talk about eye popping.

MAC is one of the masters of bright and vibrant colour, and we can always count on them to bring something intense to each new collection. These Pearlglide Intense Eye Liners ($18) from the Vera collection lead us to believe they’re also down with the fully lined colour trend.

Nails

Nail trends be damned, all we can think about is the upcoming polish collection from China Glaze in honour of the Hunger Games which premieres Friday, March 23 (countdown is on!). While the timing doesn’t feel quite right for some of the dark shades, soft and pretty doesn’t exactly suit the nation of Panem. We’ll give the final verdict when we see it in stores, but we’re pretty pumped about some of the richer, Katniss-inspired shades.

New polishes inspired by each of the districts.

What’s in Your… Makeup Bag

Today we introduce a new post called ‘What’s In Your…?’  We may feature our car, medicine cabinet, desk drawer, closet, kitchen cupboard or any other place that we keep stuff we think you might find interesting.

We start with ‘What’s In Your…Makeup Bag’.
On the Fourth Floor, we all have our personal favourites for what makes our hair shiny and our eyes sparkle.  We love Oscar Blandi’s Jasmine Oil Serum, Bobbi Brown’s Day to Night Warm Eye Palette and without OPI’s new Justin Bieber shades, our nails would not be the perfect shade of One Less Lonely Girl lavender.
Our makeup bags may be filled with makeup that we love, but these are the products we can’t live without.

Debra’s Pick: L’Oreal Collagen Extra Volume mascara
I received this mascara in a swag bag (see – seeding does work!) and I love it.  It doesn’t clump, gives me really full lashes and comes off easily at night.  I’ve been a big fan of Covergirl’s Lashblast (the orange tube) for the last year and this one is slowly taking over as my number one beauty item right now.
Great for lips and dry winter cuticles (and babies’ bums).

Hands down. It’s beautiful. My mom gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago, and I rarely use any other blush. It’s perfect for my fair skin, giving me a little glow like I’ve been outside, without actually looking like I’m wearing blush. I sometimes use it on my lips, and love that they have a specific lip version now too.
Apply with a small angle brush and you’ve got a long lasting liner that doesn’t smudge. I love this product because it lasts forever and it’s really easy to apply. Plus, with a few swipes it’s easy to take your day look into evening, as it goes on creamy but dries to an intense matte colour.

For a glow that’s just rosy, I stick with this cheek roll-on blush.

I love it for exactly the way they describe it: The fiberstretch formula and over-sized brush make every little lash bigger, fuller, longer -looking and more dramatic.
It’s true!!! Hands down, the best mascara I’ve used. Volume + length + no clumps or flakes = makeup love of my life.
Christina’s Pick: M.A.C Fluid Line
My favourite beauty product (just one! How do I choose just one?) is M.A.C.’s Fluid Line. I discovered this product in Grade 12, and have been using consistently since.

It’s the only eyeliner that doesn’t run, smudge, or end up in my tear ducts within five minutes. M.A.C.’s 210 precise eye liner brush is the perfect tool for applying clean, straight lines.
It’s my favourite item in my makeup bag because it works with my skin tone any time of year. It is a very light powder but offers really great coverage, so I get a smooth and flawless look – and anytime I need a quick refresh during the day, I can just “powder my nose”, as they say.
As you can see, we really are simple girls when it comes down to it. Give us a little blush, a dab of powder, some mascara and a lip balm, and that’s all we need to look our best and feel great.
