Halifax-raised Tara Slone is the former lead singer of the Juno-nominated rock group Joydrop, known across North America for their hit songs “Beautiful” and “Sometimes Wanna Die“. After making the top 10 on the CBS series Rockstar: INXS in 2005, Tara returned to performing and penning her own music, and in 2007 released her first solo disc Just Look Pretty and Sing.
Tara is also a seasoned actor, having attended Concordia University’s theatre performance program. Tara has appeared in numerous television shows and films, including an appearance opposite Ryan Reynolds in Foolproof, and a recurring role on the popular show La Femme Nikita.
Tara’s eclectic resume and unique perspective led her to the other side of the microphone, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Toronto entertainment television as the host and producer of the weekly show Inside Jam on SUN TV. Tara recently moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she can be seen every weekday morning as the host of Breakfast Television Calgary. Tara and her fiancé, Joe, are parents to one-year-old Audrey, her finest accomplishment yet!

How can someone grab your attention with a pitch?
A concise, not too over-the-top explanation and great packaging (I’m a sucker for packaging)! A few bells and whistles don’t hurt, but don’t overload me with knick-knacks that I don’t need and will have to immediately throw in the garbage (environment, anybody?). And of course, a great product is the best place to start.

What do you find most useful when dealing with public relations professionals?
All the proper information needs to be accessible in one place: contacts, dates, etc.
What is the biggest mistake PR professionals make?
Some PR professionals can be too pushy. I may need a reminder, but please keep in mind that driving me crazy will not get your client on the show. Sometimes you have to be willing to take no for an answer – it will serve you better in the long run.
Your pet peeve?
I find it really irritating to have to ask for more materials! You know I’ll need photos, bio, DVDs and CDs, so PLEASE make sure you send them all in one package!
